Inspirational Scotland Tour
Have you ever dreamed of seeing the beauty of Scotland in one visit? Well with a BritRail Spirit of Scotland Pass you can. The whole of Scotland is at your fingertips, so feel free to plan your own way around the country or if you need some inspiration here’s a recommended tour…
Glasgow
Start your tour in this exciting city where the nightlife is alive, enjoy the many restaurants and fine Scottish cuisine along with a warm Glaswegian welcome. Enjoy learning about Glasgow's history in one of the many museums and there are also lots of modern art spaces complimented by Glasgow's striking architecture. A must visit to start your Scottish adventure.
West Highland Line
Upon leaving Glasgow Queen Street station you will be on the West Highland line, frequently voted one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the world. Travel under swooping mountains and across world famous viaducts and even feel like you’re on a film set, with many famous films having been shot on this line and in this area.
Fort William
Arriving at Fort William, you’ll be ready for a rest and the fresh air and scenery will do just that. However, life around Fort William can be energetic because it’s known for being the outdoors capital of Britain. Try many sports like white water rafting, coastal walking or even hiking up Ben Nevis - the tallest mountain in Great Britain. After all that excitement you can wind down at a local restaurant where locally caught seafood is a speciality before retiring for the night at your chosen accommodation.
Skye
Make a prompt start on your chosen day of departure, continuing on the stunning West Highland towards Mallaig. Where you can interconnect with the ferry to the Isle of Skye (make sure you purchase this ferry journey in advance as it is not included in the Pass.) Once on the beautiful island, you may use the bus with your Pass between Armadale and Uig to explore the local sights, restaurants as well as trying a tipple of the local Hebridean whisky. Try and swing by the Museum of Island life to give you a real feel of what it's like to live here. With much to see and explore on this island we think at least a night here would help.
Inverness
Leaving Skye on the bus towards the Kyle of Lochalsh you will cross the Skye Bridge, which has connected Skye to the mainland since 1995. Once arrived in Kyle of Lochalsh you will pick up the train again for your journey to Inverness. Anyone heard of “Nessie”? Find out about the legend of the Loch Ness Monster here in Inverness, where the legend still lives on. See if you can find it for yourself… the Loch is not far from here. This city has a slower pace than others, enjoy the surrounding scenery, wildlife and iconic castles. We recommend a stay here to get the best out of Inverness.
Edinburgh
Join the train again from Inverness and travel on the beautiful Highland Mainline towards the capital city Edinburgh. Here you will find a multitude of attractions, amazing shopping around Prince's Street and the famous Royal Mile leading up to Edinburgh Castle, where you can learn all about Scottish history in this iconic landmark which sits proud in the middle of the city. This city is the life and soul of the party when it hosts its annual world renown festivals the Fringe and the Royal Military Tattoo. If you want to get away from it all, take a stroll up Arthur’s Seat just outside of town (or Calton Hill for the less adventurous) which gives you a stunning view over Edinburgh, where you can take a moment to admire the view and reflect on your journey through Scotland’s stunning scenery which will be with you forever.
The BritRail Spirit of Scotland Pass gives you the best Scottish experience with coaches to the islands included and flexible durations.
